Splinterlands: Top 3 Commons for new players

Important Notes:
1.Card values, power and importance change frequently day by day as players, meta and prices fluctuate. Prices change by the hour, so these reflect lowest market price as of 8/4/2021.
2. I do not give financial advice, only gameplay advice.
3. I am still new myself, and most of my information I get from reading and listening to better players on the Splinterlands Discord
4. The cards on this list are geared for brand new players and as you play and move to rank silver, the important card list changes.
5. If you have never played Splinterlands check out my previous post on how you can earn money while playing, and consider joining Splinterlands (it costs $10 to start).

New players in Splinterlands start with one copy of every common and uncommon from the beta set, and this is more than enough to get rolling in the bronze 3 ranked play. I think some of the best commons/uncommons are in those free cards, but because everyone has them I am not including them in this top 3 list. Also, Epic and Legendary cards can be very expensive (although you can rent them, which is what I recommend as you move towards Silver), so that is why I stuck to Commons and Uncommons in the two posts. These three cards can be rented for less than one cent (>$0.01) per day

Goblin Mech ($2.40)

Certainly one of the most powerful commons available. Due to its neutral shard color it can go in most decks. The cost is high (10) which can make it hard to play in low mana cap games. However, the 5 shield and 6 power can give all of your cheap mana range and magic characters a lot of time to shoot. 4 attack damage is also nothing to sneeze at as Goblin Mech can pound entire squads on his own at times. This is a common card that pairs up with most strategies and serves as the very best tank in Bronze. Goblin Mech is a known powerhouse and currently fetches $2.40 a card! The price is high, but hard not to have at least one in your collection.

Nectar Queen ($0.53)

In bronze my favorite shard to play is Water, using Magic (a discussion for a different post), but my second favorite is Earth using sneak and snipe abilities (Earth and Neutral). While Goblin Mech is pretty much a strict upgrade over Nectar Queen, the Nectar Queen is 1/5th the cost and plays really well with certain rule sets (especially Earthquake). The flying ability can cause 1-3 misses per match, which can be the difference in a game. I consider Nectar Queen to be another great tank and a valuable common, especially if you are enjoying the Earth shard. Nectar Queen costs $0.53 to buy, and only 0.1DEC to rent daily, so no harm in renting one for a day and giving the Nectar Queen a whirl.

Sand Worm ($0.69)

Smashing the last character in your opponents' line up for 5 melee damage feels pretty good. In bronze level often players leave their good characters unprotected in the back of the line (don't do that) and Sand Worm can eat up an entire team. Sand Worm is: slow; high mana; and not a good tank so you need protection on both sides of him: but if you do you can win plenty of Bronze level games with the worm. Sand Worm is Neutral shard so even in Silver league Sand Worm sees a lot of play in high mana cap games. Sand Worm is $0.69 currently, and it will see enough play in your first few levels of play that make it worth picking up or renting.

For under $5 dollars you can add all three of these cards to your collection and remember these three cards can be rented for less than one cent (>$0.01) per day. Then you can start hammering away at those bronze players. I would love to hear what your top 3 common cards in Splinterlands are, and which ones you have found the most success with.
